AVAVA® Laser
in Frisco, TX
Transform your skin and restore your confidence with AVAVA — a non-ablative fractional laser treatment now available at Bombshelled Aesthetics in Frisco, TX. AVAVA, originally introduced as MIRIA by AVAVA, is a 1550 nm laser system powered by Focal Point Technology™ that delivers precision energy into the deeper layers of the dermis to renew skin from within. Bombshelled Aesthetics is the first practice in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex to offer AVAVA treatments — bringing this next-generation skin revitalization technology to patients across DFW, the United States, and internationally.
Dr. Pamela Brownlee is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained plastic surgeon — certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. At this time, every AVAVA treatment at Bombshelled Aesthetics is performed personally by Dr. Brownlee. As the practice grows, additional credentialed providers may join the AVAVA treatment team — all trained, supervised, and overseen by Dr. Brownlee. AVAVA® is FDA-cleared for skin resurfacing procedures and the treatment of acne scars, and received an additional FDA clearance in October 2025 for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles across Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI, meaning the device is approved for safe use on every skin tone.
AVAVA is designed to address a wide range of skin concerns — including acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, photoaging and sun damage, pigmentation irregularities, post-pregnancy and post-weight-loss skin changes, skin texture, and skin tightening through soft tissue coagulation. Treatment areas at Bombshelled Aesthetics include the face, neck, chest, abdomen, butt, legs, arms, hands, elbows, knees, and scars throughout the body.

The First AVAVA Provider in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex
Bombshelled Aesthetics is the first practice in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex to offer AVAVA treatments. AVAVA is among the newest generation of 1550 nm non-ablative fractional lasers, developed by the founding team behind Fraxel® — the original fractional laser technology that has shaped aesthetic dermatology for nearly two decades. Patients in Frisco, Dallas, Fort Worth, and surrounding communities now have direct local access to a treatment that has, until recently, been available only at a small number of specialized practices nationwide.
Being among the earliest AVAVA providers means Dr. Brownlee and our team have developed familiarity with the device’s full range of clinical capabilities — including its application across face, body, and scar treatments — well before this technology becomes broadly available across the metroplex. For patients researching advanced non-ablative laser options in the DFW area, AVAVA at Bombshelled Aesthetics offers an opportunity to receive a treatment recognized in peer-reviewed dermatology literature and featured in publications including the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Forbes, and NewBeauty.
What Is AVAVA?
AVAVA is a non-ablative fractional laser — a type of cosmetic laser that delivers controlled energy beneath the skin’s surface to trigger the body’s natural collagen and elastin renewal response. Unlike ablative lasers (such as CO2 or Erbium:YAG lasers), which remove the outer layer of skin and require extensive healing time, non-ablative lasers work below the surface while leaving the outer skin largely intact. This means the device can stimulate meaningful skin renewal in the deeper dermis while preserving the outer layer of skin, resulting in faster recovery and lower risk of pigmentation complications.
AVAVA operates at a 1550 nm wavelength — the same wavelength category as the original Fraxel® and other established non-ablative fractional lasers. What sets AVAVA apart from older 1550 nm devices is its proprietary Focal Point Technology™ (FPT), which allows the laser to safely deliver energy levels up to 150 mJ per pulse. Most other non-ablative fractional lasers in this category are limited to approximately 70 mJ per pulse. AVAVA’s ability to operate at more than double the energy of conventional 1550 nm fractional lasers means it can reach the deeper layers of the dermis where collagen and elastin remodeling actually begins, while still safely sparing the outer skin.
AVAVA is FDA-cleared for skin resurfacing procedures and the treatment of acne scars. In October 2025, the FDA granted an additional clearance for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. All FDA clearances apply across Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI, meaning the device is approved for safe use on every skin tone — including darker skin types that have historically been at higher risk for pigmentation complications with older laser technologies.
How AVAVA Works
AVAVA’s clinical performance is rooted in three proprietary technologies — Focal Point Technology™, Conical Thermal Zones (CTZs), and ComfortCool™. Together, these allow the device to deliver more energy deeper into the skin than older non-ablative lasers, while keeping the outer layer of skin largely undisturbed and the treatment experience comfortable.
Focal Point Technology
Focal Point Technology™ (FPT) is the core innovation behind AVAVA. Traditional fractional lasers deliver energy in a cylindrical column — meaning the laser passes through the skin’s outer layer (the epidermis) at full intensity and continues straight down into the dermis. This concentrates the most damage at the surface, where it is least needed, and limits how much total energy the laser can safely deliver. Focal Point Technology™ takes a different approach: AVAVA shapes the laser beam into a precise cone, focusing the energy where it matters most — deep within the dermis — while sparing the surface of the skin.
In practical terms: older fractional lasers concentrate their highest energy at the epidermis — the outermost layer of skin — and that energy diminishes as it travels deeper into the dermis. AVAVA reverses this energy distribution. The laser passes through the epidermis at low intensity and reaches its peak energy at the targeted depth within the dermis, where collagen and elastin remodeling needs to occur. The result is more substantial deep-tissue treatment with less disruption to the skin’s surface.
The clinical principles behind Focal Point Technology™ were established in peer-reviewed dermatology research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology in 2024 by Manstein and colleagues. That research demonstrated that AVAVA’s 1550 nm laser with Focal Point Technology™ enables precise control of treatment depth while simultaneously sparing a large portion of the epidermis — lowering the risk of adverse effects such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), particularly in darker skin tones.
Conical Thermal Zones (CTZs)
When AVAVA delivers energy into the dermis, it creates microscopic areas of controlled thermal coagulation called Conical Thermal Zones (CTZs). These are precisely shaped, cone-like zones of treatment that taper from a narrow point at the surface to a wider, deeper zone within the dermis — the opposite shape of the cylindrical injuries produced by older fractional lasers. The cone geometry concentrates the body’s collagen and elastin renewal response in the deeper layers of the skin, where structural skin support actually originates.
AVAVA refers to this conical beam delivery as the Martini Effect™ — a memorable name that reflects the laser’s distinctive geometry. Patients can think of CTZs as small, targeted areas of treatment that act as healing signals to surrounding tissue. As the body responds to these signals, fresh collagen and elastin form gradually over the weeks and months following treatment.
ComfortCool™ Integrated Cooling
ComfortCool™ is AVAVA’s built-in cooling system that protects the outer layer of the skin during treatment. A sapphire window built into the laser handpiece is continuously cooled to -10°C (14°F), creating real-time cooling of the epidermis as the laser energy passes through it. This protects the surface of the skin from heat-related side effects and reduces post-treatment redness and swelling.
The cooling system is a meaningful part of why AVAVA treatments are generally well tolerated. Many patients describe the sensation during treatment as warm but manageable — not the sharp, snapping discomfort associated with some older laser technologies. Topical numbing cream is applied 45 minutes before treatment for additional comfort, and continuous epidermal cooling continues throughout each pass of the handpiece.
Combined Technologies
The combination of Focal Point Technology™, Conical Thermal Zones, and ComfortCool™ allows AVAVA to operate at energy levels other 1550 nm non-ablative fractional lasers cannot safely reach. AVAVA can deliver pulse energies up to 150 millijoules (mJ) — more than double the approximately 70 mJ maximum that conventional 1550 nm non-ablative fractional lasers are limited to.
In practical terms: AVAVA® can produce deeper, more substantial skin renewal in fewer treatments while maintaining a strong safety margin — including for darker skin tones, which were historically at higher risk for pigmentation complications with older laser devices. The result is a laser system that is both more capable and more inclusive than the 1550 nm non-ablative fractional lasers that came before it.
What AVAVA Can Treat
AVAVA is designed to address a wide range of skin concerns across face and body. Because the device can be customized to treat at superficial, mid-depth, and deep layers of the dermis — and because it operates safely across all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI) — Dr. Brownlee can tailor each treatment to the specific concern, anatomy, and skin type of every patient. The most common conditions treated with AVAVA at Bombshelled Aesthetics include:
- Acne Scars. AVAVA is FDA-cleared specifically for the treatment of acne scars. In a multi-site clinical study of 47 patients across Fitzpatrick skin types I–VI, 78% of participants showed improvement on the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS), with 90.2% achieving at least a 15-point improvement on the Échelle d’Évaluation Clinique des Cicatrices d’Acné (ECCA) scale — a clinically meaningful threshold for atrophic acne scar improvement.
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles. In October 2025, the FDA granted AVAVA clearance for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. In a multi-site FDA study of 33 subjects, AVAVA demonstrated statistically significant wrinkle improvement (p < 0.001), with patients showing an average 1.7-point improvement on the dermatologist-graded Wrinkle and Elastosis Scale.
- Surgical Scars. AVAVA’s ability to deliver controlled energy directly to targeted dermal depths makes it well-suited for the treatment of older surgical scars — including post-operative scars from prior procedures.
- Stretch Marks. AVAVA can be used to improve the appearance of stretch marks (striae distensae) on the abdomen, thighs, butt, arms, and other areas commonly affected by pregnancy, weight changes, or growth-related skin stretching.
- Photoaging and Sun Damage. Long-term sun exposure produces visible changes to the skin’s surface — including dullness, uneven tone, fine lines, and surface roughness. AVAVA’s skin resurfacing capabilities are designed to address these changes by promoting renewed collagen and elastin formation.
- Pigmentation Irregularities and Melasma. AVAVA can be used to improve the appearance of pigmentation concerns, including sun spots and melasma. For patients with a history of melasma or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, Dr. Brownlee adjusts treatment parameters to reduce the risk of pigmentation rebound — a benefit of the device’s depth-customizable design.
- Skin Texture Irregularities. AVAVA is designed to refine overall skin texture, smoothing rough or uneven areas and improving the skin’s surface quality over a series of treatments.
- Large Pores. AVAVA can help minimize the appearance of enlarged pore size, particularly when paired with sun damage and texture improvements.
- Skin Tightening. AVAVA delivers skin tightening through soft tissue coagulation — the FDA-cleared mechanism by which controlled thermal energy promotes collagen contraction and remodeling in the deeper dermis. In an independent third-party analysis conducted by Canfield Scientific using VISIA-CR imaging technology, patients showed measurable lifting effects at the brow and upper eyelid area following AVAVA treatments — with a median Y-directional movement of 2.92 mm and a maximum of 4.07 mm at six months post-treatment.
- Post-Pregnancy and Post-Weight-Loss Skin Changes. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight changes can produce lasting changes in skin texture, laxity, and tone. AVAVA can help address these concerns as part of a personalized post-pregnancy or post-weight-loss aesthetic plan.
Treatment Areas
Unlike older laser technologies that were limited primarily to face and neck treatment, AVAVA can be used safely across nearly the entire body. This range allows Dr. Brownlee to design treatment plans that address multiple concerns — whether that’s facial rejuvenation, body-focused scar revision, or post-weight-loss skin tightening — using a single, consistent technology platform.
- Face. AVAVA is well-suited for full-face treatment, including the forehead, cheeks, perioral area, and chin. Common concerns treated on the face include fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, pigmentation, photoaging, and skin texture.
- Neck. The neck is one of the most requested AVAVA treatment areas. The device can address neck laxity, crepey skin, fine lines, and sun damage — areas that have historically been difficult to treat with older laser technologies due to thinner skin and slower healing in this region.
- Chest and Décolletage. The upper chest area shows some of the earliest visible signs of sun damage and skin aging. AVAVA can be used to improve the appearance of chest sun damage, fine lines, and crepey skin.
- Abdomen. AVAVA treatments on the abdomen are often used to address stretch marks, post-pregnancy skin texture changes, and skin laxity following weight loss.
- Butt and Thighs. Stretch marks, cellulite-related skin texture changes, and post-weight-loss laxity in the butt and thigh region can be addressed with AVAVA treatments tailored to body-area healing timelines.
- Legs. AVAVA can be applied to the legs for general skin texture refinement, stretch mark improvement, and addressing post-weight-loss skin changes.
- Arms. Crepey skin on the arms — particularly the inner upper arms, a common concern in patients who have experienced weight changes or natural skin aging — responds well to AVAVA treatments.
- Hands. AVAVA can help address signs of aging on the hands, including thinning skin, photoaging, and pigmentation changes. Hand treatments are often paired with face treatments for a more cohesive aesthetic result.
- Elbows and Knees. Crepey, sun-exposed skin around the elbows and knees can be improved with AVAVA, particularly for patients addressing post-weight-loss skin changes or general body-area skin aging.
- Scars Throughout the Body. Beyond the targeted indications above, AVAVA can be used to improve the appearance of older surgical scars, traumatic scars, and other scars in nearly any area of the body, with treatment parameters adjusted to the scar type and location.
Treatment areas are selected during your complimentary skin consultation with Dr. Brownlee, based on your specific skin concerns, medical history, and aesthetic goals. Because AVAVA operates safely across all skin tones and body areas, Dr. Brownlee can build single-area treatment plans or multi-area plans designed to address several concerns over a coordinated series of sessions.
Am I a Candidate for AVAVA Treatment?
AVAVA is appropriate for a wide range of patients — including those who have historically been told they are not good candidates for laser treatment due to their skin tone, skin sensitivity, or treatment history. Because AVAVA is FDA-cleared for all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI) and operates with depth-customizable energy delivery, Dr. Brownlee can tailor the treatment parameters to your specific skin type, concerns, and tolerance. The best way to determine your candidacy is through a complimentary skin consultation, where Dr. Brownlee will review your skin and medical history and discuss whether AVAVA is the right treatment for your goals. Consultations are flexible — patients can submit photos of the areas of concern or complete a virtual consultation prior to booking treatment.
Ideal Candidates for AVAVA at Bombshelled Aesthetics
- Patients seeking improvement of acne scars — including atrophic acne scarring on the face and acne scars on any other area of the body. Patients with darker skin tones who have previously been told their skin tone limited their laser options are also strong candidates.
- Patients with fine lines and wrinkles — including periorbital lines (around the eyes), perioral lines (around the mouth), and forehead lines, who want skin renewal without the extended downtime of ablative resurfacing.
- Patients with sun damage and photoaging — particularly those who have noticed dullness, uneven skin tone, fine lines, and surface texture changes from cumulative sun exposure.
- Patients with stretch marks or post-pregnancy skin changes — including patients addressing abdominal, thigh, butt, or arm stretch marks following pregnancy or weight changes.
- Patients with surgical scars — including older scars that have matured but remain visible.
- Patients with skin texture concerns — including those with uneven texture, mild scarring, or enlarged pore appearance.
- Patients with all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI) — including patients with darker skin tones who have a history of pigmentation issues or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) with other laser technologies.
- Patients seeking non-surgical skin tightening — particularly mild to moderate skin laxity on the face, neck, and body that may not require surgical intervention.
- Patients in good general health — without active skin conditions in the treatment area, active infections, or current use of medications that significantly affect skin healing.
When AVAVA May Not Be Appropriate
AVAVA is generally well tolerated and appropriate for a wide range of patients, but certain medical conditions, medication regimens, and timing considerations can make treatment less appropriate. During your consultation, Dr. Brownlee will review your full medical history and identify any factors that might affect your candidacy or require adjustments to the treatment plan.
- Active skin infections or open wounds in the proposed treatment area, including active herpes simplex outbreaks.
- Active malignant or precancerous skin lesions in the proposed treatment area.
- A history of keloid scarring or a strong tendency toward abnormal scar formation.
- Pregnancy or active breastfeeding. AVAVA has not been studied in pregnant or nursing patients, so treatment is deferred until after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Recent use of isotretinoin (Accutane®) or similar medications. Patients must be cleared of Accutane® treatment for at least 6 months before receiving an AVAVA treatment. Dr. Brownlee will review your medication history during your consultation to confirm appropriate timing.
- Current use of medications that significantly affect skin healing or photosensitivity — including systemic corticosteroids and certain photosensitizing medications. Dr. Brownlee will review your medication list to identify any potential concerns.
- Recently tanned skin or recent sun exposure in the treatment area. Sun exposure should be avoided for a minimum of two weeks before treatment to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.
- Active immunosuppression or any condition that significantly compromises wound healing.
The list above is not exhaustive, and many patients with conditions on this list can still safely undergo AVAVA® treatment after a brief delay or adjustment to the treatment plan. Dr. Brownlee will work with you to determine the safest path forward.
What to Expect During Your AVAVA Treatment
Before your AVAVA treatment, you will receive a personalized pre-treatment protocol from Dr. Brownlee and our team. This typically includes avoiding sun exposure to the treatment area for a minimum of two weeks, discontinuing active skincare ingredients (such as AHAs, BHAs, and retinols) for one week before your appointment, and discontinuing certain prescription topical medications (such as tretinoin and hydroquinone) for two weeks before treatment. Patients with a history of cold sores or herpes simplex in the treatment area may receive antiviral prophylaxis. Dr. Brownlee may also recommend additional pre-conditioning steps based on your Fitzpatrick skin type and history.
On the day of your AVAVA treatment, you will arrive at our Frisco office at 6363 Dallas Parkway with the treatment area clean, free of makeup, and dry. The treatment area will be cleansed thoroughly with a gentle cleanser and 70% isopropyl alcohol. A lidocaine topical numbing cream is then applied to the treatment area for approximately 45 minutes to support comfort during the procedure.
Once the numbing cream has taken effect, the cream is fully removed and the treatment area is cleansed again. Both you and your AVAVA provider will wear specialized 1550 nm laser-safe eye protection throughout the treatment. A small amount of AVAVA coupling gel is applied to the treatment area, and your AVAVA provider then glides the handpiece across your skin in a precise crosshatch pattern. The handpiece is continuously cooled to -10°C (14°F) by the ComfortCool™ system, providing real-time epidermal cooling throughout the procedure. The device produces an audible signal as each pulse is delivered, and the AVAVASite™ imaging platform allows your provider to visualize and document your skin throughout the session.
Most patients describe the sensation during AVAVA treatment as a warm, snapping feeling — generally well tolerated with the combination of topical numbing and continuous ComfortCool™ epidermal cooling. Sensitive areas — including around the eyes, the apex of the cheek, and the perioral area — may feel more pronounced. Mild erythema (redness) and edema (mild swelling) are expected during the procedure and are normal indicators that the treatment is working effectively.
Treatment time varies based on the area being treated. Most face-only treatments take approximately 60–90 minutes including numbing time. Full-face combined with neck or chest may take longer. After the treatment is complete, the treatment area is cleansed once more, cooled with a Zimmer cooling device or cold compresses for approximately 15 minutes, and a mineral sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher is applied before you leave the office. Dr. Brownlee and our team will review your personalized post-treatment care instructions with you before you go home.

Recovery After Your AVAVA Treatment
Recovery from AVAVA is generally short and well tolerated. Because AVAVA is non-ablative — meaning it does not remove the outer layer of skin — most patients return to normal daily activities the day after their treatment with the help of a light makeup application. Recovery experiences vary based on the intensity of treatment, the area treated, and individual skin response. Dr. Brownlee customizes the depth and density of each treatment session to balance the strength of results with the recovery time that fits your life.
Your Skin in the First 24 Hours
Immediately after your AVAVA treatment, the treated skin will resemble a sunburn — pink to red in color, slightly swollen, and warm to the touch. This is the visible sign that the laser has reached the targeted depth and that the body’s natural collagen and elastin renewal response has been triggered. Mild erythema (redness) and edema (mild swelling) are expected and normal. Most patients are comfortable returning home the same day after a brief in-office cooling period.
Within about 24 hours, the sunburn-like appearance transitions to what many patients describe as a “tan” — a bronzed or sun-kissed look to the treated area. This appearance is the clinical phenomenon known as MENDS (Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris), where microscopic amounts of treated skin gather at the surface as the body begins to slough them away. The appearance is similar to a light suntan and can typically be camouflaged with a light makeup application. Most patients comfortably return to work, social activities, and normal daily routines the day after their treatment.
Over the next several days, the MENDS continues to gradually shed as fresh skin emerges underneath. The skin may feel slightly rough or sandpaper-like to the touch during this time — this is the natural process of the treated tissue shedding and renewing. Skin tone gradually returns to baseline over the following days. For patients who receive higher-intensity AVAVA treatments, this shedding phase may extend up to a week, with mild bronzing more visible during this window. Most patients find that a light, daily moisturizer (such as Cetaphil) and a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen are all that’s needed during this phase.
Caring for Your Skin After AVAVA
Dr. Brownlee and our team will provide you with a personalized post-treatment care plan tailored to the intensity of your AVAVA treatment and your specific skin type. Three key components apply to nearly all patients:
- Sunscreen and Sun Avoidance. Beginning 24 hours after your treatment, apply a broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily — as the final step in your skincare routine. Direct sun exposure to the treatment area should be avoided for a minimum of two weeks. Sun protection is the single most important post-treatment step to support optimal healing and reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.
- Pause Active Skincare Ingredients. For approximately one week after treatment, discontinue topical products containing active ingredients such as AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), retinoids, and vitamin C serums. These actives can be reintroduced gradually once Dr. Brownlee confirms your skin is fully healed.
- Use Gentle Skincare. Stick to a gentle cleanser and a non-comedogenic moisturizer during the first several days after treatment. Avoid scrubs, exfoliants, or any product that physically rubs the skin.
Detailed, personalized written post-treatment care instructions are reviewed with you in office before you leave and provided in writing for your reference at home. Dr. Brownlee and our team are available throughout your recovery for any questions or concerns.
When You’ll See AVAVA Results
Many patients begin to notice subtle improvements in skin tone, texture, and brightness within the first few weeks after their AVAVA treatment. However, the most meaningful results emerge over the following weeks and months — not immediately. AVAVA® works by triggering the body’s natural collagen and elastin renewal process beneath the surface of the skin, and that biological renewal takes time. New collagen formation typically continues for several months following each treatment.
Most patients describe the following pattern of results:
- Weeks 1–2: Initial redness and mild bronzing have resolved. Skin tone and texture appear refreshed and slightly brighter.
- Weeks 3–6: Patients often describe their skin as smoother, more refined, and with improved tone and clarity. Subtle improvements in texture, fine lines, and pore appearance become more visible.
- Months 2–3: New collagen formation continues to develop. Improvements in skin firmness, fine lines, scarring (acne, surgical, or stretch marks), pigmentation, and overall texture become more pronounced.
- Months 3–6 and Beyond: The final results of your AVAVA treatment series continue to develop. Collagen remodeling is a slow biological process, and many patients see additional improvement well past the three-month mark — particularly for skin tightening and deeper scar improvement.
The number of AVAVA treatments needed to reach your goals is determined during your complimentary skin consultation, based on your skin concerns, treatment area, and aesthetic goals. Some patients reach their desired results after a single treatment, while others benefit from a series of sessions. Dr. Brownlee may also recommend periodic maintenance treatments — typically every 6 to 12 months after your initial series — to sustain your results over time.
Why Choose Dr. Brownlee for AVAVA Treatments in Frisco
Choosing where — and with whom — to undergo any aesthetic treatment is one of the most important decisions in your aesthetic journey. AVAVA is a powerful, depth-customizable laser, and the surgeon performing the treatment is the single most important factor in the safety, comfort, and outcome of your experience. Here’s why patients across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, the United States, and internationally choose Bombshelled Aesthetics for their AVAVA treatments:
- Double Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Pamela Brownlee is certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery — a level of credentialing that requires completing an accredited residency program and passing rigorous written and oral examinations in plastic surgery. Per the American Board of Plastic Surgery, this credentialing is designed to verify both surgical knowledge and clinical judgment across the full scope of aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.
- Fellowship-Trained in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Beyond her residency training, Dr. Brownlee completed an Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Fellowship in Dallas, TX — additional dedicated training focused specifically on aesthetic procedures, including laser and energy-based devices.
- The First AVAVA® Provider in DFW. Bombshelled Aesthetics is the first practice in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex to offer AVAVA treatments, providing patients in DFW with direct local access to a treatment that has, until recently, been available only at a small number of specialized practices nationwide.
- Personally Performed by Dr. Brownlee. At this time, every AVAVA treatment at Bombshelled Aesthetics is performed personally by Dr. Brownlee. As the practice grows, additional credentialed providers may join the AVAVA treatment team — and all providers performing AVAVA at Bombshelled Aesthetics will be trained, supervised, and overseen by Dr. Brownlee.
- Customized Treatment Depth and Density. AVAVA is designed to be customized to each patient’s specific concerns, skin type, and tolerance. Dr. Brownlee adjusts the depth, density, and energy levels for each treatment session based on what your skin actually needs — rather than applying a generic protocol.
- Complimentary Skin Consultations Before Every AVAVA Treatment. Every AVAVA patient receives a complimentary skin consultation with Dr. Brownlee before booking treatment. Whether through submitted photographs of the areas of concern or a virtual consultation, this dedicated review ensures that the capabilities of AVAVA align with your skin concerns and aesthetic goals — so you can move forward with treatment confident in what to expect.

Patients from Frisco, Plano, McKinney, The Colony, Little Elm, Prosper, Allen, Carrollton, Lewisville, Coppell, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Denton, Richardson, Addison, Arlington, Irving, Highland Park, Las Colinas, Southlake, Dallas, and Fort Worth — as well as patients traveling from across the United States and internationally — choose Bombshelled Aesthetics for their AVAVA® treatments.
Combining AVAVA with Other Bombshelled Aesthetics Treatments
AVAVA works well on its own — but for many patients, the most comprehensive aesthetic outcomes come from combining AVAVA with other treatments that address concerns AVAVA alone cannot. During your complimentary skin consultation, Dr. Brownlee can design a personalized treatment plan that pairs AVAVA with the right complementary procedures, with appropriate timing between sessions to support safe, optimal results.
- AVAVA + Injectables. Many patients combine AVAVA treatments with neurotoxin (such as Botox) and dermal fillers for a more complete facial rejuvenation approach. AVAVA addresses skin texture, tone, fine lines, and skin quality at the dermal level, while neurotoxin addresses dynamic expression lines and fillers restore volume. Injectables are typically scheduled at separate sessions, with appropriate timing between AVAVA and injectable treatments determined by Dr. Brownlee.
- AVAVA + BodyTite™ or FaceTite™. For patients seeking more substantial skin tightening than AVAVA® alone can provide, Dr. Brownlee may recommend pairing AVAVA® with BodyTite™ (for body areas) or FaceTite™ (for face and neck) — radiofrequency-based contouring treatments that complement AVAVA’s laser-based skin renewal. The two technologies address different layers of skin and tissue, and can be sequenced for a more substantial result over time.
- AVAVA + SkinMedica® and SkinBetter Science® Products. Dr. Brownlee carries professional medical-grade skincare lines from SkinMedica® and SkinBetter Science®. These products can be used as part of your at-home skincare routine to support and extend the results of your AVAVA treatments.
- AVAVA + Surgical Procedures. For patients undergoing or recovering from surgical procedures — including tummy tuck, breast surgery, or facial procedures — AVAVA may be incorporated into the overall aesthetic plan to address scarring, skin texture, or surface concerns. Timing is carefully coordinated with surgical recovery, and Dr. Brownlee will design a treatment plan that prioritizes complete healing of any surgical site before AVAVA is applied.
- AVAVA + GLP-1 Weight Loss Program. For patients participating in Bombshelled Aesthetics’ medically supervised GLP-1 weight loss program, AVAVA can be a valuable complement to weight loss — addressing the skin texture changes and mild skin laxity that often accompany significant weight reduction.
All combination treatment plans are designed personally by Dr. Brownlee during your consultation, with careful attention to your medical history, healing capacity, and aesthetic goals. The goal is always to deliver a coordinated plan that achieves your goals safely and effectively over a timeline that fits your life.

Frequently Asked Questions About AVAVA at Bombshelled Aesthetics
Below are answers to the questions patients most frequently ask about AVAVA treatments at Bombshelled Aesthetics. If you have additional questions, Dr. Brownlee and our team are happy to address them during your complimentary skin consultation.
AVAVA is a non-ablative fractional laser system that uses Focal Point Technology™ to deliver controlled energy into the deeper layers of the dermis. Operating at a 1550 nm wavelength, AVAVA triggers the body’s natural collagen and elastin renewal response while sparing the outer layer of skin. AVAVA is FDA-cleared for skin resurfacing procedures, the treatment of acne scars, and the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles. AVAVA is approved for use across all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI), making it appropriate for every skin tone.
Bombshelled Aesthetics in Frisco, TX is the first practice in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex to offer AVAVA treatments. AVAVA treatments at Bombshelled Aesthetics are performed by Dr. Pamela Brownlee, a double board-certified plastic surgeon — certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. Our office is located at 6363 Dallas Parkway, Suite 101, Frisco, TX 75034. To request a consultation, call (469) 327-6850 or complete our online form.
AVAVA operates at the same 1550 nm wavelength as the original Fraxel® and other non-ablative fractional lasers, but AVAVA’s proprietary Focal Point Technology™ allows the device to safely deliver energy levels up to 150 millijoules (mJ) per pulse — more than double the approximately 70 mJ maximum of conventional 1550 nm non-ablative fractional lasers. This higher energy capacity, combined with the device’s cone-shaped beam delivery and integrated ComfortCool™ cooling, allows AVAVA to reach deeper skin layers and produce more substantial improvements per session while still safely sparing the outer skin.
AVAVA addresses a wide range of skin concerns, including acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks, fine lines and wrinkles, photoaging and sun damage, melasma and pigmentation irregularities, skin texture concerns, enlarged pore appearance, skin tightening (through soft tissue coagulation), and post-pregnancy or post-weight-loss skin changes. Treatment can be performed on the face, neck, chest, abdomen, butt, legs, arms, hands, elbows, knees, and scars throughout the body.
The number of AVAVA treatments needed to reach your goals is determined during your complimentary skin consultation, based on your specific skin concerns, treatment area, and aesthetic goals. Some patients reach their desired results after a single treatment, while others benefit from a series of sessions. Dr. Brownlee may also recommend periodic maintenance treatments — typically every 6 to 12 months after your initial series — to sustain your results over time.
Most face-only AVAVA treatments take approximately 60 to 90 minutes including the 45-minute numbing application. Treatments on additional areas — including neck, chest, abdomen, or larger body areas — may take longer. Your specific treatment duration will be discussed during your complimentary skin consultation based on the areas being treated.
Most patients describe the sensation during AVAVA treatment as a warm, snapping feeling — generally well tolerated thanks to the combination of topical numbing cream applied for 45 minutes before treatment and AVAVA’s ComfortCool™ system, which continuously cools the handpiece to -10°C (14°F) for real-time epidermal cooling throughout the procedure. Sensitive areas — including around the eyes, the apex of the cheek, and the perioral area — may feel more pronounced.
Downtime varies based on the intensity of your treatment, the area treated, and your individual skin response. Most patients experience a sunburn-like appearance immediately after treatment, which typically transitions to a “tan” or bronzed appearance the following day. The bronzed appearance can usually be camouflaged with a light makeup application, and most patients return to normal daily activities the day after treatment. For higher-intensity AVAVA treatments, the mild bronzing and skin texture changes may last several days to a week.
Many patients begin to notice subtle improvements in skin tone, texture, and brightness within the first few weeks after treatment. However, the most significant results emerge over the weeks and months following each session, as the body’s natural collagen and elastin renewal process develops beneath the surface of the skin. Substantial improvements in texture, fine lines, and scarring become more pronounced around the 2 to 3-month mark, with continued refinement through 6 months and beyond.
Yes. AVAVA is FDA-cleared for all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI), meaning the device is approved for safe use on every skin tone — including darker skin tones that have historically been at higher risk for pigmentation complications with older laser technologies. AVAVA®’s Focal Point Technology™ helps reduce the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) by sparing the outer layer of skin during treatment. For patients with a history of melasma or hyperpigmentation, Dr. Brownlee adjusts treatment parameters to further reduce the risk of pigmentation rebound.
Most healthy adults concerned with acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, surgical scars, stretch marks, sun damage, pigmentation, skin texture, large pores, or mild skin laxity can be candidates for AVAVA. Patients with certain medical conditions — including active skin infections, pregnancy or breastfeeding, recent use of isotretinoin (Accutane®) within the past 6 months, a history of keloid scarring, or active immunosuppression — may need to defer or modify treatment. The best way to determine your candidacy is through a complimentary skin consultation with Dr. Brownlee — which can be done through submitted photographs of the areas of concern or through a virtual consultation prior to booking treatment.
AVAVA pricing is personalized based on your specific treatment plan — including the areas being treated, treatment depth and intensity, and number of sessions recommended. Pricing is reviewed in detail during your complimentary skin consultation, where Dr. Brownlee will design a treatment plan tailored to your goals. There is no fee for an AVAVA consultation at Bombshelled Aesthetics.
Pre-treatment preparation typically includes avoiding sun exposure to the treatment area for a minimum of two weeks, discontinuing active skincare ingredients (such as AHAs, BHAs, and retinols) for one week before your appointment, and discontinuing certain prescription topical medications (such as tretinoin and hydroquinone) for two weeks before treatment. If you have a history of cold sores or herpes simplex in the treatment area, antiviral medication may be prescribed. Dr. Brownlee will provide personalized pre-treatment instructions tailored to your skin type and treatment plan.
Immediately after AVAVA® treatment, the treated skin will appear pink to red — similar to a sunburn — with mild swelling and warmth. This is a normal and expected response. Within about 24 hours, the sunburn-like appearance transitions to a “tan” or bronzed appearance (the clinical phenomenon known as MENDS, or Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris), which can usually be camouflaged with a light makeup application. The bronzing gradually fades over the following days as the body sheds the treated tissue and fresh skin emerges.
Yes. AVAVA® can be incorporated into a comprehensive aesthetic plan that includes injectables (such as neurotoxin and dermal fillers), other body contouring or skin tightening treatments (such as BodyTite™ or FaceTite™), professional skincare regimens (using SkinMedica® or SkinBetter Science® products), or surgical procedures. Combination treatments require careful timing between sessions, which Dr. Brownlee will plan during your consultation based on your specific goals and treatment plan.
AVAVA results develop gradually over weeks and months following each treatment and can be sustained for a year or longer with proper skincare and sun protection. To maintain your results over time, Dr. Brownlee typically recommends a maintenance AVAVA treatment every 6 to 12 months after your initial treatment series. Continued daily sun protection, a consistent skincare routine, and avoiding factors that contribute to premature skin aging will help support and extend your AVAVA results.
Yes. AVAVA can be used to improve the appearance of stretch marks (striae distensae) on the abdomen, thighs, butt, arms, and other areas commonly affected by pregnancy, weight changes, or growth-related skin stretching. Stretch mark treatment typically requires a series of AVAVA® sessions, with results developing gradually over the months following each session. Your specific stretch mark treatment plan will be designed during your consultation based on the location, type, and severity of stretch marks being treated.
Yes. AVAVA complimentary skin consultations are available for patients anywhere in the world. Consultations can be completed by submitting photographs of the areas of concern to our team, or through a virtual consultation. Patients across the United States and internationally regularly travel to Frisco for treatment with Dr. Brownlee following their complimentary consultation.
